CBC Regroups Against Parkway Central, Advances To District Hoops Final

Junior Jordan Barnett was the game-high scorer with 25 points.

The Hot Read: In the team's first game back on the court since CBC was humbled by De Smet Jesuit at home on Friday, the Cadets shook off some early play that suggested a repeat performance could be in store, dispatching an upset-minded Parkway Central squad 70-50 in a boys district semifinal Tuesday night.

Jordan Barnett scored 25 to lead the way for CBC (20-7). Pat McCaw added 15 and Zach Fischer had 14 for the Cadets. Parkway Central (15-14) was led by Nathan Biggs' 17 in defeat.

The Cadets boast a junior class that is the envy of college recruiters around the country, but early on, CBC turnovers, combined with Parkway Central's ability to use back door cuts and the rim for protection on layups against CBC's interior strength kept the game close, with a 18-17 lead at the half.

Quotable, CBC Head Coach Bob McCormack, on his message at halftime:

"We wanted to get some things going towards the basket and we did McCaw and Doby and JB weren't settling for just jumpshots we knew that we could shoot gaps and use the dribble to pass as well as if they weren't in our way we were going to get layups so we didn't need to shoot jumpshots and we got the ball going toward the basket, which was great for us."

At the same time, the Cadets turned up their defensive pressure, trapping the ball just past midcourt to stifle the Colts attack. The end result was a 53 point half that led to the final margin.

Up Next: CBC advances to Friday's final and gets an opportunity for revenge against De Smet Jesuit, which blew past Parkway West 69-40 in Tuesday's other semifinal. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Parkway Central.
