Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Fourth-grader Yatin Chandar is known for his problem-solving skills. In fact, those skills are taking him to the state finals for the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics Math Contests (MCTM) competition on April 30. "He has an innate desire to learn in all subject areas, " said Lauren Roth, Yatin's teacher. "He applies learning to new situations and is always very thorough."

Yatin placed third in the problem solving and fourth in the concepts part of a regional MCTM contest. Yatin competed with other students from around the area and will now represent Pierremont Elementary School at the state finals at Missouri State University.

Yatin is a member of Parkway's MOSAICS Academy for exceptionally gifted students. Roth said that in addition to being smart, Yatin is a classroom leader, works well with others and helps other students.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: "It's not about being smart. It's just about practicing and learning new things. So if you learn something new, you have to keep in touch with it, like the Pythagorean theorem," Yatin said.
