Whiz Kids Accomplishments: Fifth-grader Jordan Harris recently received the Parkway School District's Spirit of Excellence Award. The award is given to African-American students for outstanding accomplishments, including maintaining a high GPA and good citizenship. Jordan's mother told Patch that Jordan is very dedicated to his work and responsibilities. She said he earned this award with his hard work and dedication. She also said he is diligent, sets goals and reaches them and then wants to achieve more. She said Jordan is even hard on himself sometimes about reaching his goals.

"Jordan is a wonderful child at our school. He is so cooperative and participates frequently during discussions.  He excels in math, science, and art. We are so proud of him for this well deserved achievement," Mike Schmerold, Jordan's principal, said.

In addition, Jordan's mother said her son always helps others and is very active in their church. She said he meets with friends after school to help them study.

Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: "Every single time there's a test or a quiz, I study as hard as I can. Maybe the whole night before the test," Jordan said. "I make sure I listen at school. When a teacher says something twice, it's usually on a test, so I underline it."
