Westminster Names Doug Coleman New Varsity Boys Basketball Coach

Westminster Christian Academy released the following details of the hiring in a news release.

Westminster is excited to announce that Doug Coleman has been hired as the new varsity boys basketball coach. Coleman is a Westminster graduate and will assume the role having served as an assistant varsity and junior varsity coach for the past seven years at Westminster. Prior to his Westminster coaching days, Coleman was the head boys basketball coach at North County Christian School. While there, he helped guide the team to three consecutive state final appearances in the Missouri Christian Schools State Tournament.  

When Coleman played for Westminster in the late 90s, his team won the first district championship game in the school’s basketball program. He continued his playing career at Maryville University and stayed on as an assistant to Head Coach Matt Rogers.

Westminster Athletic Director Todd Zell is thrilled to hire Coleman in this role. He says, "It is exciting to hire a Westminster alum who has seen the program grow and cares a lot for it.” says Zell. “Doug not only has required basketball knowledge but also has a heart for the Lord. I have not doubt that he will use basketball as a tool to help transform the lives of the young men he coaches.”

Coleman has a B.S. in Education from Missouri Baptist University. He and his wife Sarah (also a Westminster alumnus) have four children.
