Visitation Academy Teacher Receives Leadership in Education Award

Visitation Academy teacher Nancy Moore was surprised with an award this week for her dedication to students.

Thanksgiving will have special meaning for Nancy Moore, a fifth-sixth grade math teacher at Visitation Academy in Town and Country. Moore, a resident of Crystal Lake Park was presented a Peabody Logos Leader in Education award for the 2011-2012 school year.

Moore was shocked when she was given a $1,000 stipend tied to the award. As a fifth and sixth grade mathematics teacher Moore combines a fair, honest and open classroom to inspire her students. She mixes humor and positive thinking to get the job done.

She is moderator for the Bellarmine Speech League, helping young girls to become practiced public speakers which she credits to helping build students’ self confidence.

When Moore was announced the winner, she suggested the money might best be used to buy learning tools for her students such as I-pads for the classroom. The girls in the audience gasped with approval.

Moore serves as the math department chair at Visitation Academy and helped expand the math curriculum at the school. She has worked her entire professional career to help young women to become passionate about the field of mathematics.

The Peabody Logos Leaders in Education program rewards dedicated education professionals-from teaches and coaches to librarians and counselors. The goal of these winners is to motivate young people to succeed. Award recipients are selected throughout the the school year by a committee of top educators and business leaders.
