Student Transfer Requests Coming To Parkway School District

Parents in the failing Riverview Gardens and Normandy school districts have until August 1 to file transfer requests.

With less than a week left before an August 1 deadline for parents in the unaccredited Normandy and Riverview Gardens School Districts to file transfer requests, we have a better idea now of how those students could impact the Parkway, Ladue and Pattonville School Districts.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch obtained data that shows as of this past Friday, a total of 70  transfer requests to the three public school districts serving Creve Coeur had come from the Normandy School district. Ladue was in the lead, with 40 requests, Pattonville came next with 21 students and the Parkway School district had 9 students, including 3 2nd grade requests.

Over in Riverview Gardens, the makeup changed, with Pattonville receiving 52 requests, including a a high of 7 8th grade requests. Parkway was next at 26, with and Ladue had 18 requests, including a high of 4 requests for spots in 7th and 9th grade.

The dynamic has the potential to shift again, especially with the number of Riverview Gardens transfers. Administrators there selected Mehlville schools as the preferred district to provide free transportation for transfers. But because Mehlville will only be able to accept at most 200 Riverview Gardens  Riverview Gardens is reportedly set to select a secondary district for transportation Tuesday night.

KMOV TV is speculating that the Parkway School District is likely one of only 2 candidates for the designation from Riverview Gardens.

It is up to the receiving school districts to decide which building a transfer student would be placed. Those students would be eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities, including Missouri State High School Activities Asociation-sanctioned sports.
