Shotgun Was Loaded When Seized by Police Near Parkway Schools

Police shared new details Tuesday about the search for a suicidal suspect with a loaded shotgun near Parkway schools Monday evening.

Police now say the 19-year-old Webster Groves man will not face criminal charges after prompting four Parkway schools to go into "lockout" mode Monday evening while police searched nearby woods for the teen.

Manchester police tell Patch the shotgun was loaded when it was seized by police after the search Monday night. It was purchased around 3:30 p.m. Monday by the teen at South Side Guns.

It all began around 4:30 p.m. after police said the teen bought a shotgun Monday afternoon, texted his girlfriend that he was going to kill himself, then proceeded to the area near Parkway South High School, causing more than two hours of alarm at four Parkway district schools.

No one was injured during the incident and the teen finally surrendered peacefully to authorities just after 7 p.m.
