Mazzola started his career as an educator as a business teacher at West Junior in 1981, followed by years as a teacher and as an assistant principal at . In 1995 he accepted the position of head principal at
Mazzola and his wife Linda, both Parkway West Class of 1976 graduates, along with their children are Parkway School District alumni.
