Maryville University MLK Jr. Celebration

The following information was provided by Maryville University in a news release.

Town and Country's will hold a Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration: Lessons from Little Rock, featuring a talk by Ernest Green about his experience as one of the "Little Rock Nine." 

Green and eight other black students were the first to integrate Central High School, following the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education that declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional. They later would become known as the "Little Rock Nine."

Green earned his high school diploma from Central High School, then went on to receive his bachelor's degree in social science and master's degree in sociology from Michigan State University. He also received honorary doctorates from Michigan State University, Tougaloo College and Central State University. Green is presently the Managing Director of Public Finance for Lehman Brothers' Washington, D.C., office.

The event will be held from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 in the Maryville University Auditorium with a reception immediately following the talk.
