Dick Westbrook: "All My Girls Think They Need to Do is Show Up"

Visitation soccer coach disappointed in 2-0 loss to MICDS.

In a nutshell, Visitation Soccer coach Dick Westbrook was in a snit over the lack of effort by his team against MICDS Wednesday.

The Rams capitalized on opportunities, using a pair of rebounded shots by Klasey Medelberg and Amber Jones to blank the Vivettes, 2-0.

“Oh we didn’t play well at all. We didn’t come to play. The enthusiasm wasn’t there. They (the team) had a big win yesterday (Tuesday) over Cor Jesu (2-1) and they think all we have to do is come out and we will win. We play a tough schedule, and they have to come out and play a tough game each time,” he said, point-blank.

As he was being interviewed, the host Rams broke out in a rousing team cheer.

“See, that’s what we needed. Either these girls are going to take it to heart, or we are going to lose every game. It’s as simple as that,” said Westbrook.

The Vivettes get little rest time. Friday, they host Webster Groves, then 24-hours-later, clash in Jefferson City with the Helias Crusaders.

“Technically, they (our team) doesn’t have the heart right now. I am very disappointed in their play,” said their coach.

There are stars a plenty on Viz, a team that went deep into last year’s tournament. This year, they are 2-3 so far and searching for answers.

Everyone knows Jade Klump, their big performer is one of the best in the area. Several times she had break-away opportunities, only to be stopped by MICDS goal keeper Liz Lewis.

Lewis said the challenge was daunting. “A couple of times Jade was right on me. I’m small, and she looked about nine feet tall coming at me,” said the winning goal keeper who recorded the shutout.

Several Visitation players gave the team full effort. Sarah Price kept the pressure up at midfield the entire game, and Caroline Cantalin, Ellen Greiner and Mary Rudelic all turned in good performances.

However, in the eyes of their veteran coach, that wasn’t enough. He is looking for some “W’s” coming up for the rest of the schedule in April.
