Windmill, Firehouse Improvement on Town and Country Agenda

Town and Country aldermen may vote on a new windmill coming to a local school, plus a discussion on fire crews moving out of the firehouse as improvements on the building get underway.

Town and Country aldermen have a packed agenda Monday night.

A vote will likely come Monday night on a request by  to build a 19 foot windmill on its property. According to church officials, the windmill will be a teaching tool for elementary students at , while providing water for the school’s garden. Concerns over safety and aesthetics were initially brought up by members of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission, however John Roberts, assistant pastor and head of school for Covenant Presbyterian said safety is the school's primary concern and it will make the necessary adjustments to ensure safety and that the windmill is within city standards.

Aldermen are also set to discuss a temporary housing agreement for the upcoming construction project on the firehouse at Mason and Clayton roads. The board of aldermen voted to accept a $744,000 bid from Hof Construction to update the firehouse. Town and Country Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde said the upgrades are for cost effectiveness, better functionality and comfort. It would cost an estimated total of $853,400 and begin June 15. Fire crews will have to be housed elsewhere during construction. Work is expected to be compete by October.
