Woman Applauded For Going Public With Intimidation Accusations
Town and Country resident Traci Cardenas said she was uncomfortable by the actions of a fellow resident and an alderman while electioneering on April 3. In this Letter to the Editor, a response from St. Louis area Susie Getzschman who supports Cardenas.
Hooray for Tracey for standing up for herself! There is a kind of male conspiracy that presumes men somehow know more and will make the decisions and can bully their way out of situations when they are called to account for their actions.
It was brave and necessary for Ms. Cardenas to stand up for her right to work at the polls and to approach anyone with a pamphlet. Thank goodness for Dickie Palmer who did the honorable and peacemaking thing under the circumstances. Some men might have decked Mr. Chaney without a second thought, which would only have exacerbated the situation. Trust Mr. Palmer to do the best thing under the circumstances! Bravo to both!
It is this kind of behavior that chases out all the creative community thinkers--a kind of ugly controlling of everything that thinks it "Knows what's best for everyone" that smacks of despotism.
I'm sorry the exchange happened, but perhaps it needed to in order to expose why Alderman Gerber lost as the last true community-minded, democratic gentleman on the Board of Aldermen.
Sadly yours,
Susie Getzschman
