Town and Country Police Officials Commended for Outstanding Service

Corporal who pulled man from burning car was one of several officers and detectives recognized at Monday's Town and Country board meeting.

Several members of the Town and Country Police Department received top honors at Monday's board of aldermen meeting.

Mayor Jon Dalton said he was filled with pride and honor for the city's police department. He awarded Cpl. Chris Moore with a Meritorious Service Citation for his quick response to an accident in which a vehicle had become engulfed in flames with the driver still inside.

"Cpl. Moore's determination to save the driver overwhelmed the natural instinct of self-preservation," Dalton said. "At great risk to himself, he worked until he was able to free the driver and with assistance, moved him to safety. We are extraordinarily proud of you."

Moore said he was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

"My sergeant was 20 seconds behind me, and if I had been 20 seconds behind him, he would have been the one up here right now," Moore said after receiving the award. "And 20 seconds behind him there was another guy on my squad. We would all have done the same."

Police Chief John Copeland also presented the Chief's Award of Excellence to the officers who helped arrest Jeremy Burkhalter on June 30. Burkhalter was wanted in connection with numerous thefts in Town and Country and a felony for stealing in St. Louis County.

Copeland recognized Sgt. John Flanagan, officers Ronnie Nicoletti and Danny Palmer and Moore. He also commended all three detectives on the case: Sgt. Rick Kranz, Joe Giacopelli and Jim Gorman.

"They ended Burkhalt's assault on our residents," Copeland said.
