Town and Country Moves Forward With $16 Million Infrastructure Program

Work will likely begin in July on the "historic" project, which includes an overhaul of many city streets.

Monday night, Town and Country aldermen approved transferring $3.6 million from the city's 2013 General Fund Reserve and applying it to funding for 2013 road improvements.

The City of Town and Country is planning what leaders call an "historic" overhaul of the city's roads. The five-year plan was developed and recommended by the city's Public Infrastructure Investment Task Force. It will invest approximately $5 million in road improvements this year and a total of approximately $16 million into the city's entire infrastructure over the five-year period. (The presentation on the plan can be read in the PDF portion of this article.)

Some of the streets topping the list are those in the Wheatfield Road Subdivision, Mason Valley Estates Subdivision and Cheshire Farms Subdivision.

Prior to Monday night's approval of $3.6 million for 2013 road improvements, the city previously approved $1.4 million for 2013 road improvements.

Town and Country Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde expects to open bidding for the project on May 15, with a contract to be awarded in June. Work will likely begin in July.

Wilde said contractors are bidding these projects extremely aggressively right now and that prices are lower than they've been in years.

"With this 'perfect storm' of network condition, economic factors and construction value the Task Force is confident that now is the time to act on such a historic undertaking for the City of Town & Country," Wilde previously stated in an email to Patch.

Aldermen and the city's mayor once again expressed support for the plan Monday night.
