Town and Country, Manchester Honor 9/11 Victims

"Patch" provides information on events to remember the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.

Manchester Wreath Laying Ceremony
When/Where: The City of Manchester will hold a wreath laying ceremony at 8:46 a.m. (the time the first plane hit the Twin Towers) on Sunday at the off Henry Avenue.
Events: Mayor Dave Willson will read a portion of his proclamation regarding the events of Sept. 11 during the laying of the wreath. Manchester police and fire crews will participate in the ceremony. Schools and churches have been invited, and Boy Scouts are expected to attend as well. The wreath will then be taken to where it will be displayed. Flags will be flown at half staff as part of the ceremony.

Sept 11 10-year Anniversary Service
When/ Where: The event begins at 1:30 p.m. and the service at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the fire house located at Mason and Clayton roads in Town and Country.
Event: Town and Country's , and two other area churches, will host a 9/11 10th anniversary service. Town and Country police and fire crews will also participate. There will be free food, music and children's activities. The 30-minute service will feature a joint choir and thoughts from community leaders. The organizers of this event would like to acknowledge the significance of the events of 9/11, honor the sacrifices made by servicemen and women and show appreciation for the ideologies that brought people together in the aftermath: freedom, faith and family.

Celebration of Peace—A Concert of Unity
When/ Where: The concert begins at 7 p.m. Sunday at .Event: Two hundred singers will gather to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the events of 9/11. The St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Chorus and the Chancel Choir of Manchester United Methodist Church, conducted by Kevin McBeth, will present musical selections of classical, inspirational, spiritual and gospel music.

Acknowledgement Ceremony at Manchester Homecoming
When/Where: At 7 p.m. on Saturday at the in during the .
Event: Mayor Dave Wilson will read a portion of the proclamation at the acknowledgement. The wreath and a full copy of the proclamation will be on display.

Interfaith Rally—Muslim Community in Solidarity of 9/11 Victims
When/Where: The interfaith rally will take place at noon Sunday on the grounds of the Gateway Arch. People are needed for volunteer projects from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Event: Faizan Syed, the executive director of the Council on Islamic-American Relations in St. Louis, attends the in Manchester. He is organizing the the interfaith rally to honor the 9/11 victims and show solidarity between Muslims and other Americans. This Day of Service Rally, in partnership with United Way, will gather volunteers to pick up trash items along city streets, paint stone murals, assist senior residents with modest home repairs and beautify the grounds of schools.

More than 3,000 people are needed. Sign up to volunteer for the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. United Way of Greater Saint Louis  has organized dozens of projects throughout the community.

March to the Arch
When/Where: March to the Arch will begin at at 9:11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11.
Event: The March to the Arch is a 21-mile memorial walk organized by local resident Bo Drochelman. The group will walk Manchester Road, beginning in West County, and end at the Gateway Arch. The walk was started by Drochelman on Sept. 11, 2002 when he walked the route by himself in remembrance of those who lost their lives on 9/11. Please bring an American flag of any size to carry during the march.
