Does Town and Country Want a Dog Park?

Town and Country city leaders are discussing possibly building a dog park, but first, they want hear from residents. 

The city's Parks and Trails Commission Chairman, Alderman Lynn Wright, tells Patch the idea of a dog park has been brought up by residents. What Wright and other aldermen want to know is if the community as a whole would welcome a dog park, or is it just a few people.

"Are we just hearing it from a few people or do we really want a dog park?" asked Wright. "When it was looked at years ago, we decided not to do it at the time, but now people have been asking for it. We (aldermen) are asking for the community's feelings and then the Parks and Trails Commission will review it."

"I think people really want it," Alderman Phil Behnen tells Patch.

The city is considering sending out a survey to residents looking for answers.

Wright and Behnen point out the City of Creve Coeur has a dog park that works well for the community and it may be a model Town and Country could consider. That is a park that requires a membership fee and a code for members to use the park. Photos of the Creve Coeur dog park are included in this article.

Another question aldermen want answered by residents is where they would like to see the dog park be built.

"Which one of our parks could handle something like that?" Wright asked.

We're still deciding whether or not to send out a survey to find out what the needs are of the community, but we haven't decided yet on how to send it out," Wright explained.
