Timeline Revealed for Town and Country's Longview Parking Project

A timeline for the  parking expansion project was revealed Monday night at the Town and Country Board of Aldermen meeting. That timeline can be viewed in the PDF portion of this article.

Traffic counters will be be installed Tuesday at the park to start counting cars coming in and out of the park so aldermen can use that traffic data as they make decisions about moving forward with the project.

An April 9 workshop will take place to discuss parking, changing the park's entrances and exits and lighting adjustments for the new parking lot format. At this time, aldermen should also have data from the traffic counters.

Prior to the workshop, Anne Dixon, Town and Country's director of parks and recreation, will gather additional info for aldermen to review as they plan the future of the park. She will likely provide a summary of organizations that had their park use affected by lack of parking and to what extent those organizations were using the park.

Mayor Jon Dalton said no action will be taken on the expansion project before June 25, when an ordinance is scheduled to go before aldermen and they could vote on whether to hire an engineer for the project. Dalton also said the city will not incur any expense until the preliminary traffic count is in front of the board.

At the last board of aldermen meeting, aldermen voted to move forward with the project by authorizing the city to apply for a $4,000 planning grant to prepare engineering construction drawings for the parking lot expansion project.

Some residents opposed to the parking expansion project have created an online petition.  They previously stated they plan to use the signatures gathered on that petition as support to urge St. Louis County to not give grant funds to the city of Town and Country for the parking expansion project.
