Surprise Slushstorm

The overnight storm of heavy, wet snow caught some commuters by surprise Monday morning, but road crews were out early clearing local streets.

Despite local weather reports, some Town and Country and Manchester residents said they weren't expecting the amount of snow the area received overnight and into Monday.

It made for a difficult morning commute. One Manchester resident said it took him 45 minutes to get his kids to their school, which is four miles from their home.

reported no major accidents due to the winter weather and the said its had crews out plowing since morning. Crews did not use salt, but by noon had plowed all the snow routes, primary and secondary streets. A city spokesperson said that since the snow was so wet, it cleared off roads easily.

said the calls have slowed down as of Monday afternoon, but they were busy Monday morning. Dispatchers said they had no major accidents, but several slideoffs due to the slushy roads.

 Director Craig Wilde tells Patch that crews began plowing the city roads around 6:30 a.m. Wilde said as of Monday afternoon roads are "nothing but wet."
