RNA Worldwide Holding Monthly Electronics, Appliance Recycling in Manchester

Residents can drop off old electronics and appliances once a month beginning in July and it's free.

The will be offering electronics recycling on one Saturday each month, beginning in July.

Residents of the surrounding area are also invited to utilize the recycling event.

Scott Farrow, chief operating officer with RNA Worldwide, told aldermen Monday night that in the two e-cycling events the company has already held with Manchester have been successful and collected more than 200,000 pounds of electronics.

Manchester and RNA have a twice a year electronics recycling program, but Manchester Public Works Director Bob Ruck said the city now wants to do a once-a-month electronics recycling event.

"Instead of having six months of collections showing up on a Saturday, we'd have it once a month," Ruck explained.

He said it will probably held the same Saturday each month, but which Saturday has not been decided yet and may be finalized later this week.

The monthly event would not require city staff. RNA would provide staffing and clean-up each month.

The recycling events would be held 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the lower parking lot of , so it doesn't conflict with the   

"RNA's ready to roll. I don't know that we'll kick it off this month, but we'll be ready to go in July," Ruck told aldermen Monday night.

He said the monthly program will be assessed as it goes along.

"Right now our intention is to go full blast, but we may look at it again as we head into the winter months," Ruck explained.

Also Monday night, RNA donated $500 to the City of Manchester for it to put toward the cost of the "50 Years as a Manchester Resident" annual luncheon. NAP411.com also contributed to the luncheon, according to city staff.
