Receive a Low Interest Loan for Energy Efficiency Upgrades

Town and Country and Manchester have both opted in to the St. Louis County SAVES program, which offers financial help to homeowners wishing to improve their homes' energy efficiency.

and homeowners can now borrow between $2,500-$15,000  to make improvements on their home to make it more energy efficient.

The Sustainable and Verifiable Energy Savings program, sponsored by St. Louis County, is accepting online applications for homeowners interested in receiving a low-interest loan for their home improvements.

“The SAVES program has already injected $1.3 million into the St. Louis County economy by financing low interest loans for qualified homeowners,” said Anne Klein, County administrator of the SAVES program, in a press release.

Improvements do not necessarily have to be solar panels or wind turbines in order to qualify; improvements can be as simple as replacing inefficient furnaces, malfunctioning air conditioning units, replacing leaky windows, or increasing a home’s insulation.

“These improvements save homeowners on their energy costs, put local companies to work, and increase property values. It’s a win-win-win,” Klein said in the press statement.

The St. Louis-based Missouri Coalition for the Environment is actively encouraging homeowners to take part on the SAVES program.

“Energy efficiency is the safest, cheapest, and cleanest form of energy available,” said Ed Smith, Safe Energy Director for the Missouri Coalition for the Environment, in a press release. “Missouri lags behind other states in energy efficiency investments and the SAVES program is a step in the right direction to address our long-term energy needs.”
