New Police Commissioner, Community Garden and Fire House Improvements in Town and Country

Monday night, aldermen approved a new police commissioner after a controversial comment removed the longest sitting commissioner and they got an update on an almost one million dollar firehouse improvement project.

POLICE COMMISSION-

Monday night, Ward 1 at-large police commission member Jeff Klieve was appointed and approved as an official Town and Country police commissioner.

Town and Country Mayor Jon Dalton appointed Klieve and the board of aldermen voted to approve the appointment.

Klieve's appointment comes after a comment by Town and Country resident Dorothy Rogers, who served on the city's police commission for 13 years. She made the comment, some considered inappropriate, during a March Town and Country Police Commission meeting.

According to a report, the comment came while the commission was discussing a move to "substitute the word 'accessible' from 'handicapped' in the (city's) Parking for Physically Disabled Ordinance." Rogers alleged comment can be read here on page 5 of Hoffmann's newsletter.

Those who attended the meeting confirm the comment was made, but Rogers tells Town and Country - Manchester Patch that her comment was taken out of context.

FIREHOUSE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT-

Aldermen also got an update on the renovation project at the firehouse at Clayton and Mason roads.

Town and Country Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde explained planned updates and associated costs will total $853,400. Aldermen will have to approve $744,000 in funds for the actual cost of the contract for the project. They will likely vote at the next board of aldermen meeting on April 23. Wilde said $744,000 in funds have already been appropriated for the project in the 2012 budget. Hof Construction is set to complete the work on the firehouse.

Check back to Town and Country - Manchester Patch later this week for more details on the project, plans on moving firefighters and cost.

OTHER BUSINESS-

Also Monday, aldermen decided not to vote, but to continue a request for an electronic sign for Trinity Lutheran Church. They did vote to once again enter into an agreement with to grow a community garden again this year.
