Maryville Grandstand, Clayton Road Project Progress Approved Monday Night

The Town and Country Board of Aldermen approved a new grandstand at Maryville University, moved forward with the Clayton Road project and accepted a settlement for damaged pavement.

The Town and Country Board of Aldermen voted on a number of issues Monday night.

The meeting, however, started off with comments from residents who spoke out against proposed bow-hunting in the City of Town and Country. The idea was one deer-management option discussed at a Conservation Commission meeting earlier this month. Check back to Town and Country-Manchester Patch for more on this topic.

Police Chief John Copeland also announced that some of the proceeds from last week's police golf tournament with the Town and Country and Creve Coeur police departments will be donated to help victims of the tornado in Joplin, MO. Copeland said they are still trying to determine how much was raised before they decide on an amount to be donated to the storm victims.

Board members also discussed a number of new business items.

Funds and planning for the Town and Country 2011 Fire and Ice Event and its fireworks were discussed, but not voted on Monday night.

The city is also considering entering an agreement at the cost of $199,999.10 with consultant firm Howard R. Green. The firm would conduct a cost benefit analysis on 15 stormwater projects to be implemented into the city's stormwater program, including two projects to be constructed in 2012. The board could vote on this proposal at the next meeting.

Town and Country Director of Public Works Craig Wilde also addressed the board. He requested additional funding for a new Department of Public Works maintenance vehicle. Wilde wants to essentially trade in an older, deteriorating city truck and equipment for a new vehicle. The new equipment will cost $56,340, and the trade-in value is estimated at $10,000, bringing the requested fund total to $46,340. No vote was taken on this request.
