Penske Coming to Manchester, Arts Council Moves Ahead

The Manchester Board of Aldermen voted to allow a Penske truck hub to operate in the city, plus approved more money for sidewalk repairs and took steps to move ahead with the new Manchester Arts Council.

Monday night the Manchester Board of Aldermen voted on issuing a special use permit to a local business to run a Penske truck hub just off Manchester Road.

Ridgway Insurance Group LLC, requested a special use permit to also operate as a Penske agent from his current location at 14575 Manchester Road. This request was not recommended by the city's Planning and Zoning Committee and Manchester's Director of Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Franz Kraintz previously pointed out concerns over traffic and noise at the public hearing for the permit request. The vote was deferred at the last two board of aldermen meetings, but after adding 13 stipulations to the agreement for the permit, a vote issuing the permit came Monday night. Those requirements by the business can be read in the agenda included in the PDF portion of this article.

The board also voted to create a task force for the Manchester Arts Council. At the March 5 board meeting, aldermen got an update on the newly created Manchester Arts Council by Dan Tierney, deputy director of the Regional Arts Commission. Tierney also explained the next steps are to make the council legitimate, including the creation of a plan. He offered guidance on how to move forward with creating the council, so Monday night aldermen officially began the process by unanimously approving a resolution to form an arts council task force.
