Hwy 40 Memorial Honoring Fallen Sergeant

A portion of Highway 40 will be dedicated to a fallen sergeant on Friday, Oct. 21. The public is invited to attend the event.

A ceremony will be conducted to dedicate a portion of Highway 40 as a memorial highway honoring Sergeant Joseph G. Schuengel. Sergeant Schuengel died in the line of duty on Oct. 15, 2010, when the helicopter he was piloting crashed. 

Dedication ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. at the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop C Headquarters, located at 891 Technology Drive, Weldon Spring, Missouri.

Sergeant Schuengel was the 29th member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to lose his life in the line of duty.

House Bill 798 establishes the Sergeant Joseph G. Schuengel Memorial Highway on I-64 from Boone's Crossing overpass west to the Spirit of St. Louis overpass in St. Louis County. The bill was signed by Governor Jay Nixon on July 14, 2011.
