Emergency Alert System Test Wednesday
An Emergency Alert System test is planned at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.
A national Emergency Alert System test is planned at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9. Residents in Town and Country and Manchester can expect alerts to come across the radio, television and cable, an announcement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) states.
The test will last up to three and a half minutes. It will mark the first test of the national system. The system is meant to enable the U.S. president to address the public in the event of an extreme emergency.
The test has been in development for two years. It is a collaboration of FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Families are encouraged to develop an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan. More information is available at ready.gov.
