Rain Delays Clayton Road Trail Paving

The goal to have the new Clayton Road Trail along Clayton Road paved by Thanksgiving did not happen due to the recent weather. Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde wrote in an email that work was stalled due to the large amount of rain.

Wilde released the following email update on the Clayton Road Trail Project. 

We really have had our progress slowed by the weather the last few weeks.  Initially, we wanted to have the trail paved by Thanksgiving.  Obviously, that did not happen.  With the rain that we have received, the grading has not been able to proceed as we would have liked.  In the mean time, we are working on installing the  ADA ramps.  These are localized and able to be protected from the weather. 

Most of the grading for the trailhead at the firehouse was completed before things got too wet.  The rock base course is in place and we are waiting on some small change approvals from before proceeding with the pouring of the concrete in this location.  We have also worked out an arrangement which will allow us to fill the ravine next to the football field at .  As you may have noticed, the contractor has already been stockpiling some material in this area to fill the hole.  Once we can get access to this ravine, we will lay reinforced concrete pipe and install a couple of new structures to pick up the surface water.  When it is complete, this area will be generally flat and sodded.

In the coming weeks, it is our hope to continue to work on some of the peripheral work such as the sidewalk in front of Straubs, the trailhead, entrance monument modifications and ADA ramps.  If a break in the weather comes, we will be working on the grading and rock base for the trail as much as possible.

The City of Town and Country has also created a Facebook page to update residents regularly on Clayton Road and trail construction.

The first phase includes resurfacing on Clayton Road beginning at Highway 141 and going to Oak Springs Lane. It also includes the construction of the Clayton Road Trail, a pedestrian walkway, from  to Oak Springs Lane.

The contractor also has the option to do some night paving. Wilde said more specific information, including overnight work, will be released shortly so residents are aware of any disruptions that may occur.
