Clayton Road Construction: Painting and Striping Continues Next Week

Check in on Clayton Road's reconstruction progress in Town and Country and see what's planned for this week.

Painting and striping the stretch of Clayton Road in Town and Country continues this week as part of the repaving project.

Construction has been a continued focus on phases two and three of the Clayton Road Resurfacing and Pedestrian Enhancement Project, encompassing Oak Springs to Bopp Road and the crossing at Highway 141.

The following is an email update from Town and Country Public Works Director Craig Wilde from Friday:

I just finished meeting with the striping contractor regarding their schedule. They have been out the last couple of nights removing stripe from the bridge deck over I-270 as well as laying out the long line striping on the western end of the project.

This morning (Friday) they are gearing up to stripe the project from Municipal Center Drive to the west. They will be back on Monday to continue working their way east and should be complete by next Wednesday.

I have also been receiving some feedback on a couple other items and I believe it would be prudent to go through our path from this point forward. Most notable of these issues is the newly enacted prohibition of right turns (on red) from northbound Bopp Road to eastbound Clayton Road. This is a temporary measure which was enacted to enhance the safety of this movement.

As a part of the design process, the sight distances at this signalized intersection were evaluated but were not given the priority. It has become apparent that the wall installation on the west side of this intersection impacted the functionality to a greater degree than anticipated. Since no situation can be considered static, we will continue our diligence to evaluate the effectiveness of the application and contemplate any necessary enhancements.

We are working with our design engineers to complete a full assessment of this location now that the paving is completed. Obviously, the safety of our users is the most important benchmark and at this time, it seemed prudent to prohibit that right turn on red movement for the time being. For now, we ask that you heighten your awareness at this location until a more suitable and long term solution can be developed.
