BJC Plan Turned Down by Town and Country Planning and Zoning

Weeks after unanimous commission opposition to a proposed senior living center, residents show up again to speak out against another rezoning request.

Town and Country Planning and Zoning Commission shot down a proposal for a pediatric ambulance center from BJC Health Center last week, according to an STL Today report.

The opposition came a week after residents turned out to another commission meeting to speak out against a rezoning request and site plan for a proposed senior living center.

BJC—who bought the 16-acre site at 599 Mason Road, the report said—has plans for a 320,000 square-foot pediatric center that would not be a 24-hour service. The location would take over the former Missouri State Highway Patrol headquarters building just off Highway 64/40.

Reasons for denial included noise and traffic issues, and property value of neighboring homes, the report said.

The proposal is expected to be presented to the board of aldermen later this month, where it could still be approved by a super majority vote despite the planning and zoning commission's negative recommendation.

What do you think? Would the pediatric center be helpful? What would you like to see at that space instead? Tell us in the comments.
