Wind Knocks Down Tree, Closes Ballas Road

Strong winds are to blame for a tree crashing down on power lines on Ballas Road. Power was out in the area and the road was closed in both directions for hours.

Town and Country police tell Patch strong winds caused a tree to fall onto power lines knocking out power and closing Ballas Road in both directions around 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the incident happened where Ballas Road intersects with Hawthorne Estates, which is between Manchester and Clayton roads.

Traffic was rerouted as Ameren Missouri crews worked for hours to remove the tree and restore power.

Police tell Patch the tree was removed and the road reopened to traffic around 10:00 p.m., Thursday.

According to Ameren's outage map late Thursday night, some homes were still without power in the area.
