Wife Charged With Murder After Stabbing Death of Real Estate Businessman

Mary A. Mullenix is accused of stabbing her 76-year-old husband to death. Prosecutors charged Mullenix Thursday.

A woman is accused of stabbing her 76-year-old husband, Ivan L. Mullenix Sr., to death in their home near Town and Country.

Thursday, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Mary A. Mullenix, 69, of Country Life Acres with second-degree murder, one count of armed criminal action, and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Thursday night, she is being held in the St. Louis County Justice Center in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

St. Louis County police said the charges were issued after St. Louis County Police Department detectives received a call around 1 a.m. Thursday to assist the Town and Country police on an "apparent homicide" at the couple’s home on Country Life Acres Drive.

The Country Life Acres village is a small community patrolled by Town and Country Police.

Town and Country police had responded to a domestic incident reported by a family member where, Mullenix Sr. died from an apparent stabbing. His wife was taken into custody by the investigating detectives and charged in connection to the stabbing death of her husband.

Mullenix founded The Mullenix Cos. in 1964 and the firm owned and managed more than $200 million in real estate, according to a 2002 report.
