Town and Country Police Sergeant Retires After Nearly 30 Years With Department

After nearly 30 years with the Town and Country Police Department, Sergeant Dan Wagener says goodbye as he leaves for retirement. His final day with the department is Thursday.

According to Town and Country police, Wagener began his career as a patrol officer on Nov. 28, 1983. He was part of the city's original official group of police officers. Patch readers can see photos from the Dec. 1983 orientation day in the photo and PDF portion of this article.

Wagener has seen many changes within the city over the last thirty years. 

The Town and Country Police Department released more details on Wagener in the following news release. It also explains how the city and its police department have changed during Wagener's time serving the residents of Town and Country.

Sergeant Dan Wagener retiring -

Dan started his career as a patrol officer with Town & Country on November 28, 1983, just a couple of days before the city’s 1983 annexation became a reality on the 1st of December (1983). It was also that day that Town & Country dissolved its Department of Public Safety in favor of a full-time police department and the beginning of a long-time service contract with West County EMS & Fire (formally the Manchester Fire Protection District) for fire and EMS services.

Dan is one of the 3 remaining officers hired on the same day (Nov. 28, 1983) when Town and Country more than doubled its size. The other two officers are Chief John Copeland and Officer John Nienhaus.

January 24th will be Dan’s last day of duty and service to the community.

Chief Copeland stated, “Throughout his career Dan has consistently and unwaveringly demonstrated his commitment to all through his hard work and caring manner. Our hats are off to Dan for all he has done for our great community and wish him and his wife the very best!”
