Town and Country Man Guilty of Robbery, Attempted Sodomy

Demetrie Javon Thomas found guilty of attacking a woman near his home on Willowbend Park in Town and Country.

A 17-year-old Town and Country man was found guilty of first-degree attempted robbery and attempted forcible sodomy.

Demetrie Javon Thomas, 18, of the 14000 block of Willowbend Park in Town and Country, was found guilty Sept. 9 by Judge David L. Vincent III. Thomas waived a jury trial.

Town and Country police responded to a call May 16, 2012 in the 14200 block of Willowbend Park. The caller told police a man was assaulting a screaming woman. Police arrived and spotted the injured woman and saw Thomas running away.

"He sees her and assumes that she would be an easy target to rob, so he comes up behind her and smacks her on the buttocks which alarms her," said Gary Hoelzer after the incident.

Hoelzer was a police captain at the time of the incident, and now is Town and Country city administrator.

"She turns around and confronts him and that's when he throws her on the ground, tells her he has a gun and he wants her cell phone and money. Then she starts screaming and a neighbor hears her and calls police," Hoelzer said.

Thomas is scheduled to be sentenced 9 a.m. Nov. 21.
