Town and Country Burglary Suspect Back in Custody

Town and Country police said Wednesday that the search is over for Nicholas Blackwell, 30, of the 12300 block of Summerhouse in Maryland Heights. He is back in police custody.

Town and Country Police Captain Gary Hoelzer previously told Patch that Blackwell was wanted in connection with recent burglaries on Conway Hill and Conway Village. He is also a suspect in a prowling incident on Mason Estates Court last week.

Hoelzer said Blackwell was initially in Town and Country police custody Saturday, but was released pending an additional investigation.

Police gathered additional evidence since Blackwell's initial arrest and issued another "wanted" alert for him earlier this week.

Hoelzer alerted Patch late Wednesday afternoon that they have found and apprehended Blackwell. He said Blackwell was located in Berkeley early Wednesday morning. Town and Country detectives had reportedly learned that Blackwell had a relative in Berkeley, so they met with Berkely police to update them and ask them to be on alert. Hoelzer said Berkeley police caught Blackwell coming out of the suspected home and took him into custody.

Blackwell was also questioned by police in Maryland Heights, Kirkwood and St. Louis city at the time of his initial apprehension, but released. Hoelzer said as of Wednesday, even more police departments are interested in Blackwell.

“There are several other agencies now that are investigating burglaries where he is the probable suspect, so I am sure they will be coming over to talk to him about those,” Hoelzer said.

Although Blackwell is wanted in connection with two Town and Country burglaries, one while residents were home asleep, he is not charged with either crime at this time. Hoelzer said police will now apply for warrants on both burglaries, once charge first degree burglary for Conway Hill and one charge of second degree burglary for Conway Village.

Hoelzer asks residents to remain aware even though Blackwell is in custody.

“I keep saying lock your doors, but in addition to that, residents can provide us with good information like last week with the prowler (on Mason Estates Court),” Hoelzer said. People are aware that there are people out in their neighborhoods without legitimate purposes so it’s good that they let us know.”
