Town and Country Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

The FBI says they've arrested a "serial bank robbery suspect" that may have robbed the UMB Bank in Town and Country last month.

Special agents with the FBI said two people are now in custody and one of those people is a "serial bank robbery suspect" they say may have robbed the last month.

In a news release, Special Agent in Charge Dennis L. Baker of the FBI St. Louis Division said Jerry B. Chambers, 32, of St. Louis was arrested Friday. The FBI said Chambers was arrested at a home in St. Ann after a tip from someone who knew Chambers helped identify him.

“So far this year, we have arrested four suspected serial bank robbers who may have been responsible for 20 bank robberies,” said Baker in the press release. “If they are charged with all 20 bank robberies, our solution rate for the FBI St. Louis Division would be 71 percent.

According to the FBI, Chambers and Walter W. Wallace, 23, of St. Louis have both been charged with robbing the Pulaski Bank at 10 Maryland Plaza in St. Louis on March 29. However, investigators believe both men may also have robbed Advance America Cash Advance at 1300 Schaeffer Road in Granite City, IL on April 30 and the FCB Bank at 909 South Main Street in Caseyville, IL on March 1.

The FBI said Wallace was arrested and charged on May 2, but authorities believe Chambers may have continued robbing banks by himself, including the  on May 7 and the American Bank at 917 N. Outer Road in Warrenton on May 21.

Although both men are in custody, the FBI is still looking for additional information on any of those five robberies. Anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
