The Lake Saint Louis Police Department issued a press release stating that they received a report Friday afternoon that six suspects in a series of ongoing stealing cases in the area were recognized at Von Maur.

Police said in the report that Barnes assaulted two Von Maur employees who tried to prevent the theft. One employee's ankle was broken.

When police arrived at the business, the six subjects fled the store.

The suspects then fled the scene in two vehicles, one of which struck a Lake Saint Louis police car. Douglas drove the car that struck the police cruiser, according to investigators.

As previously reported by Town and Country-Manchester Patch, the other car made its way east on Highway 40 with police in tow, but eventually overturned near the Mason Road exit. One of the suspects fled the scene and tried to steal a car from a motorist stopped in traffic. He was tasered and apprehended by police.

Authorities now say it was Bartee who drove that car and led officers on the chase into West County.

“Apprehension of these suspects may solve multiple cases in surrounding jurisdictions, “ said Lake Saint Louis Police Chief Force.  “I am glad we were able to take the suspects into custody before they were able to victimize more businesses and our citizens.”

Additional charges may be filed upon further review of the case, Force said.
