Shoplifting Suspect Caught After Police Pursuit

According to Manchester Police Sergeant Sheree Waterhouse, when police tried to take the man in his 20s into custody, he reportedly fled and a foot pursuit ensued.

Waterhouse tells Patch two officers chased the suspect who fled across Highway 141. She said the man was apprejended by 11 a.m. near the  cemetery just west of Hwy 141.

According to Waterhouse, the man had a knife in his possession, but he never displayed it. Manchester Police Captain Chuck Hunn said the man was using the knife to open boxes in Walmart.

Waterhouse said officers never pulled their weapons either.

The suspect was taken to the Manchester Police Department where he was charged with shoplifting and fleeing police, Watershouse said. 

Hunn said an accomplice was waiting in a car outside of Walmart. That person was also taken into custody by police.
