Police are searching for suspects Monday after thieves struck at least two churches overnight in Town and Country, but an alarm scared them off from one.

The following information was supplied by theTown and Country Police Department.

Police are searching for suspects Monday after an overnight burglary and attempted burglary at two Town and Country churches.

Town and Country Police Captain Gary Hoelzer tells Patch, the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church at 1755 Des Peres Road was burglarized, probably during late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Hoelzer said a classroom window was pried open and two laptop computers and a TV were stolen.

In a separate, but likely related instance overnight, police responded to what appears to be an attempted burglary up the street from Assumption at the Gateway Christian Church at 1951 Des Peres Road. Hoelzer said police responded to an alarm at that location at 12:57 a.m. Tuesday.

"A window in the rear of the building was broken. Apparently no entry was made due to the alarm," Hoelzer stated in an email.

Both churches are located near Manchester Road and Interstate 270.

Hoelzer said police believe the thief or thieves burglarized Assumption Greek Orthodox Church prior to setting off the alarm at Gateway Christian Church. It appears nothing was stolen from Gateway, police said.
