Neighborhood Trustee Charged with $40,000 Theft

A Town and Country man was charged this week for stealing from his neighborhood association.

A Town and Country man was charged Monday for the theft of more than $40,000 from his neighborhood association, where he served as a trustee, according to an STL Today report.

Anthony Calandro, 56, of the 700 block of Hamptons Lane in Town and Country, was a trustee of the Hamptons Lane neighborhood for 18 years, the report said.

The allegedly stolen funds were used to pay for Calandro's water bill, landscaping and snow removal, as well as withdrawn at casinos and used in personal checks to himself, the report added. Calandro's co-trustee noticed the funds misplaced over five to six years.

Calandro was charged and found guilty last November for health care fraud and making false statements. A chiropractor in Crestwood, the report said Calandro was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to make $1 million in repayments.
