Manchester Police Captain Charles Hunn tells Patch the woman met the man because she had hired some local movers to move items for her mother.

"She said he was the nicest man she ever met," Hunn explained.

The Manchester woman was reportedly so pleased with the moving job, she asked the man if he did any other work and she said he agreed to do cabinet work for her.

The woman said she even went shopping with the man, described as being in his 30s, at Lowes to purchase the correct supplies for the job.

However, the resident told police that when she left the home for about an hour while the man was in the home to do the work, she came back to find none of the work had been done.

"He did not complete the work he agreed upon, but apparently contacted her and said he would return the next morning to complete the work," Hunn tells Patch.

When the man did not show up the next morning, that's when the woman told police she noticed a piggy bank with almost $300 in it was missing from the counter. She told police she believes the man stole it.

"She became suspicious when he did not show up the next day," Hunn said.

She said she was unable to reach the man from that point on and called police on June 9.

Police said the man lives in Pevely, MO. Hunn said investigators were able to located him because they called the moving company he worked for and found out it is owned by his mother. She is cooperating with police and put her son in touch with authorities.

Hunn said the man came to the police station and told investigators that he did not steal the woman's money. He said he did not return to the woman's house the next morning because he had to attend a funeral.

The incident is still under investigation.
