Suspected Hit and Run Driver in Police Custody

Police say a man wanted in connection to Thursday's fatal accident in Town and Country turned himself in Sunday.

Town and Country police tell Patch that George Putney, 52, wanted in connection to the fatal crash at Clayton Road and Woods Hill Drive, turned himself in to police at the Sunday morning.

Captain Gary Hoelzer tells Patch that charges against Putney are not officially filed, but police are seeking warrants for manslaughter and felony leaving the scene of an accident. Hoelzer expects charges to be filed Monday.

Putney is currently in custody. 

"While he refused to make a statement, detectives have positively linked him to the crash scene," Hoelzer stated in an email.

According to the , Ciby Kimbrough, 70, died from injuries she suffered in Thursday's accident. Hoelzer said a driver heading westbound on Clayton Road crossed the center line and hit Kimbrough's vehicle head on.

"She died from massive injuries suffered as a result of the vehicle collision," Hoelzer stated. 

Last week, police said the driver who hit Kimbrough fled the accident scene, but the that car was found a short time later just west of the accident site. Although the driver was gone, police then began seaching for the registered owner of that vehicle, George Putney, of the 1300 block of Forrest Lane Court in St. Louis. Putney's name was made public due to the search.
