The goal of the program is to keep the drugs out of the hands of those who might abuse them, including teens experimenting with prescription drugs, and to keep them out of our water supply.

Additional details on why the event is being held and what drugs are and are not accepted are included in the following email sent out by the City of Town and Country.

On Saturday, April 27th 2013, the Town and Country Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), will host a Prescription Drug Take Back Event to collect expired and unwanted prescription medication. Increasingly, prescription medications are being used by teens and youth at parties or for experimentation, and most of the time the source for these drugs is the home medicine cabinet. Additionally, improper disposal of these medications can lead to the contamination of public water sources.  This collection event, and others like it, help to avoid the improper use or abuse of these medications and keeps them out of our watershed, allowing for a safe and proper disposal method.

This free event will be held at the Town and Country Municipal Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, please contact Detective Joe Giacopelli at 314-587-2864 or email at giacopellij@town-and-country.org.

ITEMS THAT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT THIS EVENT:

  • Illegal drugs (marijuana, cocaine, etc.)
  • “Sharps” objects such as syringes
  • Radioactive medicines
  • Bio-hazardous materials
  • Glass thermometers or other medical devices
  • Bulk medication from businesses such as pharmacies, doctor’s offices, or hospitals
  • Only medication from individuals will be accepted.
