Moore said he and Officer Ronnie Nicoletti were the first on the scene and were told there were dogs in the home.

"We kicked in the front door and got the two golden retrievers out," Moore tells Town and Country - Manchester Patch.

The homeowners were not home when the blaze broke out and there were no injuries, Moore said. However, the fire was so intense that firefighters had help battling the two-alarm fire from Creve Coeur, Des Peres, Frontenac and Kirkwood fire departments.

Moore said there is heavy structural damage and the fire went through the roof.

"It did extensive damage to the home," Moore explained. "And it was a nice home."

West County fire crews tell Patch that the cause of the blaze has not been determined as of late Saturday night, but Moore said a neighbor told authorities of a possible "loud boom"  before the blaze broke out. Initially it appears the fire started somewhere near the garage, Moore said.

There is no damage estimate as of Saturday night.

The Red Cross also responded to the scene Saturday evening.
