Celebrate Safety During St. Louis Night Out

West Country police are encouraging residents to get out and meet their neighbors on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The Town and Country Police Department is holding Town and Country Night Out from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.

According to the department, the St. Louis Area Police Chiefs Association set the first Tuesday of October as St. Louis Night Out in lieu of the National Night Out in August.

"So on October 1st 2013 we will celebrate the event in neighborhoods all across the City," Town and Country police stated in a news release. "The goals of Town and Country Night Out are to foster partnerships between members of the community and our police and fire organizations and to acknowledge the many residents and neighborhoods who are taking an active role in promoting safe neighborhoods."

St. Louis County police are also participating in the night out against crime.

"This is a credit to our citizens who not only support the St. Louis County Police Department, but also recognize the opportunity to strengthen neighborhood spirit, sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back," St. Louis County Police stated in a news release.

County officers from each of the seven county precincts, along with officers assigned to contracting municipalities, will visit neighborhood gatherings, park parties and walks throughout St. Louis County.

"Officers will be speaking to residents on specific areas of crime prevention tailored to their individual areas, as well as general topics, such as child safety, elderly abuse, firearm safety and back to school tips," the release stated.
