UPDATE: 76-Year Old Businessman Killed in Stabbing; Spouse in Custody

St. Louis County Police said real estate developer Ivan L. Mullenix Sr. died overnight from an apparent stabbing.

A 69-year-old woman has been taken into custody by St. Louis County Police after her 76-year-old husband died.

St. Louis County Police report that Ivan L. Mullenix Sr., of 14 Country Life Acres near Town and Country, died overnight from an apparent stabbing. Patch earlier reported the incident, which is being treated as a murder.

Town and Country Police responded to a domestic incident reported by a family member.  The Town and Country Department requested St. Louis County Police to investigate the murder.

The victim’s 69-year-old spouse has been taken into custody by the St. Louis County Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit and is being questioned relative to the investigation.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, police have not released a possible motive for the stabbing.

The Post reports that a family member other than the wife is the one who called 911.

The article also states that Mullenix founded The Mullenix Cos. in 1964 and the firm owned and managed more than $200 million in real estate, according to a 2002 report.

As previously reported on Patch, Mullenix was sued by his two sons in 2011 over an apartment complex.

Country Life Acres is a village of approximately 70 residents near Des Peres and Clayton roads, just west of Interstate 270. According to county maps, it is surrounded by the city of Town and Country. Town and Country police reportedly provide patrols to the community.
