How to handle coworker who tells you what to do

No, I wouldn't, and here's why: She is obviously intimidated by a young, energetic hard worker in the office, and she feels like she needs to bring you down a notch or two; put you in your place so to speak. Don't let her! Now, I wouldn't confront her because that will only create antagonism in the office. Instead, I would nod and smile when she is lecturing you, and then, go ahead and do it your way.

Now, if she corners you later on and asks you why you didn't follow her “instructions,” I would contact your boss or human resources, or whoever you need to tell at your company. But don't let this go on much longer, because you need to do your job without some insecure coworker breathing down your neck.
