What To Wear on Holiday

Is there anyone out there trying to squeeze one last get-a-way in before the kids go back to school? Read this for ideas on vacation dressing.

There are a handful of trends we saw from the resort collections.  And if you have another trip planned before the summer ends, you’re in luck!

The Resort 2012 lines are ready and waiting to inspire you, and keep you ahead of the vacation dressing curve.  Tropical prints, bright colored lace, neons, nautical vibes, and tribal prints.  I’ll just focus on my favorite trends, which are the ones that I think will never go out of style – the tropical prints, the nautical look, and the tribal patterns.

Tropical prints don’t seem like the newest trend on the vacation block  It is one that can look gorgeous/spectacular or bad/tourist-y.  It is easy to spot a beautiful tropical print (pick the print that speaks to you the most), the trick to making it fresh for your 2011 trip is about looking for a new shape.  The shape of the garment is such a game-changer!  Check out the floral print on these pants from Cynthia Rowley.

Next on my list is the nautical look.  Always a classic look.  Navy and white are always the base color combos, but try mixing in orange, baby pink, gold…try to think outside of the box!  Striped mariner tops are chic and will go with millions of things.  Do great wide leg pants, seek out sailor buttons, and look for anchor motifs.  Also check out YSL’s Resort 2012 Collection (there are only 25 pieces to click through and you won’t regret it, it’s so cute!) Stefano Pilati has anchors and stripes sprinkled in all over the place.

Tribal prints are so fun and a great way to get blasts of vibrant color into your suitcase.  Batik and ikat prints are easy to find.  Burberry Prorsum Resort showed a few punches of tribal in its 2012 lineup.  The dresses are so easy to throw on with a pair of strappy sandals and go, but also be on the lookout for tribal accessories, too.  Vanessa Mooney (whom I've mentioned before) is a favorite of mine.  She has a great bohemian design that still feels modern.  Pieces like this can pull your look together, even if you’re wearing a simple white tee and jeans.

Another fortunate aspect of all of these styles is that they all pair really well back to white, so that means you can bring a couple pieces of each trend, and bring your best white basics to pair them back to with mixing and matching.  Pack those great white jeans, that crisp white tank, the flowy white skirt, and the beautiful white blouse you have.  If mixed and matched correctly you can really save yourself lots of suitcase space and possibly (hopefully?) get everything into a carry-on, and your husband will be happy!

If by chance your destination is somewhere cooler, you’re in luck, too. Loads of new fall pieces are rolling into stores now, (another great fall fashion season is just around the corner) and you get to be the first to don them and make all of your friends jealous!

Happy packing, ladies :)
