Kisses For Kaleb 2014
This is the 4th year for this benefit for the on going therapy of Kaleb Wakefield. Kaleb is age 6 now.
I asked Kaleb’s dad, Aaron, to send me a brief summary about his thoughts
concerning Kaleb’s health since his injury. Below is that statement:
!
Kaleb's life and ours were decimated in 2007 when his nanny shook him and
slammed his head causing traumatic brain injury symptoms and significant
disabilities. Shortly after realizing just how extensive the damage was we sought out
to get him as much therapy as we could. Progress was slow and he did not appear to
be getting as much out of them as we would have liked. We kept searching for
anything that might help him more.

We then discovered the Ability Camp in Canada. They provided kids and adults with
brain injuries and other neurological conditions treatment in the form of Conductive
Education and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Conductive Education got Kaleb doing
things that no other traditional PT or OT could do. We saw significant improvements
with the Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy including a walking Kaleb at the end of a 40 hour
session (he came into the program barely crawling!)
Kaleb is now walking on his own, attempting to feed himself and has become more
and more aware of his world since these treatments. He has also become more vocal
and is now beginning to attempt to communicate his needs using words! These seem
like simple things but it is HUGE for Kaleb and we are so proud of him.
Thanks to donations from family and friends we were able to provide this life
changing therapy to our Kaleb. Donations were also used to allow Kaleb to do
neurofeedback therapy which has also shown to be effective in improvement of
symptoms and the normalization of excessive brainwave activity. Unfortunate as it is,
most if not all of these proven treatments that helped Kaleb were not covered by
insurance. It is our hope to continue these therapies for as long as we can and to
hopefully get Kaleb back to the kiddo he was intended to be.
