Workshop to Help Patients Better Manage Side Effects


Cancer

Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis (CSC)  and Mercy will host a

free collaborative educational workshop for cancer patients and their

caregivers entitled “Frankly Speaking About Cancer Treatment: Take Control of
Side Effects with Medicine, Mind and Body.”  Designed to help people

understand and manage the physical and psychological side effects of treatment,
the 1.5 hour workshop will take place on September 11th from  6:30
– 8:00 PM (Registration opens at 6:00 PM),
at David C. Pratt Cancer
Center, Conference Room,  Mercy Hospital—St. Louis, 607 S. New Ballas Rd.,

Today more
than 10 million Americans are cancer survivors, many of whom regularly receive
a range of cancer-related treatments.  Effectively managing the physical
and psychological effects of treatment is increasingly important to improving quality
of life.

Stress-Management Strategies to Cope with Changes


• Ways
to Optimize Quality of Life During and After Treatment:

Dr. Kosuri, Medical Oncologist, will discuss
strategies to manage issues such as fatigue, hair loss, anemia, infection, and
pain.


·        
Kathy Bearman, LCSW, will address ways to cope with
emotional distress and optimize quality of life during and after treatment.
