Prayerful Pilgrims Brave the Rain to Bear the Cross

Watch this video story as local Baptist church members joined a group of prayer walkers for the final leg of a journey that crossed the state of Missouri to spread the gospel and celebrate Easter.

A group of Missouri Baptists observed this year's Easter celebration by joining together to carry an 80-pound wooden cross from Kansas City to St. Louis, including along Manchester Road.

The event was created as a way to encourage members of the church community to share their faith with others. The final leg of the ten-day prayer walk began early on the morning of Good Friday from the West County Community Church in Wildwood. After setting a pace that put them nearly an hour ahead of schedule, the walkers began making regular stops for prayer, including several in Manchester.

Despite heavy winds and rain late Friday morning, participants in the walk expressed commitment to the completion of their journey, suggesting that difficult circumstances might give them an even greater opportunity to appreciate the suffering that Jesus experienced. Fortunately, the faithful walkers even enjoyed a little sunshine as they made their way along Manchester to their final destination, a prayer meeting at Tower Grove Baptist Church.
