Police Department Cooks Up Funds For Family of Late Detective

Friday evening, the Manchester Police Department held a spaghetti dinner to benefit the family of Detective David Prouty, who passed away unexpectedly in May.

Friday evening, the donned aprons and put on a Spaghetti Dinner at to benefit the family of Detective David Prouty, who passed away unexpectedly in May, at age 37.

Prouty left behind a wife and four children. His wife, Holli Prouty, attended the benefit Friday evening.

Raffle tickets were sold, Big Top Clowns made balloon animals in exchange for donations.

“My son passed away last year, and you’ve got to do something,” said Sharon Cohen, of Big Top Clowns. “I’ve been through this and it’s not easy.”

 The police department also sold t-shirts with the John Wayne quote, “Life is tough. It’s tougher if you’re stupid.”

“David had [John Wayne’s] picture in his cubicle with the saying underneath,” said Manchester Police Chief Tim Walsh.

Proceeds from the spaghetti dinner will help the Prouty family pay medical bills. While no final total is in on how much the benefit raised, the cafeteria was packed all evening long.

The event had a great community turnout.

“I think it’s wonderful. At this rate, we may sell out. I hope we do,” Walsh said.
